Stamped Metal Enclosures for Industrial & PC Power Supplies

The stamped power supply housing provides multi-faceted protection for the power supply core. It resists external impact, dust and moisture with its solid structure, ensuring the safety and stability of internal components. Its good thermal conductivity and heat dissipation design, such as heat dissipation holes and fins, help dissipate heat and maintain a suitable temperature. At the same time, it has electromagnetic shielding performance to reduce internal and external electromagnetic interference.

The precisely reserved installation holes and interface openings facilitate the fixation of the power supply and the connection of the line, ensuring smooth and efficient power transmission.

Stamping is an efficient metal processing method. It uses the mold to apply pressure to the metal sheet under the action of the press to cause the sheet to undergo plastic deformation, thereby obtaining parts of the required shape and size. In the process of stamping the power supply housing, the following steps are mainly involved:

Cutting - First, according to the size requirements of the power supply housing, cut the appropriate size of the blank from the metal sheet (such as steel plate, aluminum plate, etc.). This step is usually completed using a shearing machine. For example, if you want to make a rectangular power supply housing, you need to cut the metal sheet according to the length and width of the housing plus a certain processing allowance.

Punching - Many power supply housings require various holes, such as mounting holes, heat dissipation holes, etc. These holes are punched out of the blank through a punching die. The punching die has a punch of a specific shape. When the punch is driven by a press and punches into the blank, the required holes can be punched out of the blank. For example, for heat dissipation holes, a round punch may be used to punch multiple small holes in the housing in a certain arrangement to facilitate the dissipation of heat inside the power supply.

Forming - This is the key step in stamping the blank into the final shape of the power supply housing. Depending on the design of the housing, it may include bending, stretching, etc. For example, if the power supply housing has a bent edge, the edge of the blank needs to be bent to a suitable angle through a bending die. For some housings with complex shapes, such as those with concave or convex parts, a stretching operation may also be required to stretch the metal sheet under the action of the die to form the desired shape.

Ordinary carbon steel is one of the commonly used materials, such as Q235 steel. It has good strength and toughness and is relatively cheap. This type of steel can withstand certain external impacts and is suitable for manufacturing power supply housings that require high structural strength. For example, the housings of some large industrial power supplies may be subject to external collisions or extrusions due to their large size. The use of Q235 steel can ensure the stability and reliability of the housing.

Aluminum alloy materials (such as 6061 aluminum alloy) are also widely used. Its biggest advantage is its light weight and good thermal conductivity. For some power supplies that require weight, such as portable power supply devices, the use of aluminum alloy housings can make it easier for users to carry. In addition, good thermal conductivity helps conduct heat inside the power supply, which is beneficial for heat dissipation and improves the service life of the power supply.
