The famous aluminum extrusion heat sink manufacturing is adopted by the majority of aluminum alloy heat sinks, which is the real mainstream in the market. Aluminum extrusion is the most commonly used process for processing aluminum material, which has been used in various fields. In the aspect of heat sink processing, aluminum extrusion process is mainly used to manufacture sheet fin or cylindrical fin of the initial blank.The material used in the aluminum extrusion process is usually AL6061 or AL6063.

Stamping heat sink manufacturing is typically used in making PCB board level heatsink. Copper or aluminum can be pressed into the desired shape. Due to the use of advanced die and high speed stamping technology, the heat sink formed by stamping is very suitable for mass production. In our factory, threads, clips and interface materials can be machined on the fin for specific use, which can reduce the labor cost of later circuit board assembly.

Special Heat sinks are machined out of a metal block by material removal to create the inter-fin spaces. Most commonly they are manufactured by gang saw cutting on a computer numerical control (CNC) machine. The gang saw consists of multiple saw cutters on an arbor with precise spacing, which depends on the heat sink geometry to be machined. In some cases machining is done using end mills. The advantage of this process is that there is minimum lead time. Solid bar stock is readily available and parts can be made very quickly as compared to other process which requires a lot of tooling lead time. Often, during machining, the fins are damaged and distorted, and require extensive secondary operations. Material is also consumed in an unproductive manner by the generation of scrap metal. Although they are expensive, they can produce heat sinks with features that cannot be done by other methods.
